Orange County Mobile DMV at Town Hall - April 21st

Supervisor Stephen A. Bedetti is happy to announce the Orange County Mobile DMV will be back at New Windsor Town Hall again! The mobile DMV will be here on Monday, April 21st from 10am-3:30pm. New Windsor residents can process many of the normal DMV transactions right here at town hall.

Supervisor Bedetti would like to thank Orange County Clerk Kelly Eskew for once again bringing this service to our residents!

National K-9 Veterans Day Celebrated with new Monument Site at the Police Department

March 13th was National K-9 Veterans Day. This is a day set aside to honor military and working dogs. Town Supervisor Stephen Bedetti and the New Windsor Police Department have recently broke ground on a monument site at the Police Department to recognize our past and future K-9 Teams.

Today the monument was set in place and soon the Building and Grounds crew will begin landscaping the area around it. An official dedication will take place in the near future. Stay tuned for more info.

NYS Burn Ban in Effect for Orange County: March 9-May 14, 2025

*BURN BAN IN EFFECT FOR ORANGE COUNTY*

Effective yesterday, New York State has issued a Burn Ban in response to the increased fire activity and potential for wildfires across the state. This includes any and all open residential brush burning until May 14th, 2025.

Supervisor Stephen A. Bedetti is happy to announce the Orange County Mobile DMV will be back at New Windsor Town Hall again! The mobile DMV will be here on Tuesday, March 18th from 10am-3:30pm. New Windsor residents can process many of the normal DMV transactions right here at town hall.

2024 Year End Update from Supervisor Bedetti

Supervisor Bedetti has reviewed his first year in office. He would like to acknowledge the Town Board and Town Employees who have worked together towards goals set for 2024.

  • Managed a 52 million dollar budget, with the lowest tax increase in 10 years, just $29 per average home in New Windsor for 2025.
  • Continued infrastructure improvements: New sewer plant is progressing and investigating a new water plant at Stewart Airport.
  • Negotiated new contracts through 2027 with all Town employee unions.
  • Enforced quality of life concerns - worked to shut down illegal spa’s and smoke shops. Worked with owners to address poor property conditions at five corners and other locations in Town.
  • Revitalized the Last Encampment and Calvary Cemetery. The Town has retaken ownership of the Last Encampment once again.
  • Worked with New York State to repave Little Britain Road and fixing flooding issues on River Road.
  • New Windsor Hero Banner Program started to honor our veterans with 25+ banners hung already.
  • Increased communication with residents through social media, LED sign at town hall and electronic information boards in town buildings. Calls and emails returned seven days a week.
  • Actively pursued all available grant money available for the Town to apply for.
  • Continued five year paving project to ensure all town roads are freshly paved.
  • ADA Upgrades for Town Hall, Marasco Center, Community Center and Gazebo at Town Hall.
  • Rented vacant town properties to generate income from them. 
  • Worked with New York State DMV to add a road test location in New Windsor. 
  • Passed local law regarding ATV’s.
  • Town Clerk Patty Clarino has added evening and weekend hours for residents. 
  • Reduced Dog Park fees for residents and dog license cost for Seniors. 
  • Created a virtual town suggestion box on our website, with paper copies available at town hall.

Recreation Department

  • Continued upgrades of recreation facilities including new walking paths, cleanup of parks and additional lighting. 
  • Received $950,000 grant being used towards a splash pad and improvements at Kristi Babcock Park and Ruscitti Park. 
  • Received grant to start revitalizing the teen center. 
  • Created Recreation Master Plan. 
  • Hired new Recreation Director.

New Windsor Police Department

  • Fully upgraded New Windsor Police Communications room via grant money with in house labor.
  • Added Deputy Police Chief, five new officers, promoted detectives and sergeants.
  • Started New Windsor Police drone unit with grant money.
  • Received over $232,000 in grant money towards technology upgrades.
  • Paved New Windsor Police range for training.
  • Negotiated new contract with Washingtonville School District for a school resource officer.
