Please be advised that the Town of New Windsor is currently undertaking a mandated five-year update to the Town’s previously FEMA approved Hazard Mitigation Plan (2011 & 2016). The development of this update was initiated in March 2020 by a Hazard Mitigation Planning Team (HMPT) appointed by the New Windsor Town Board.
Town of New Windsor 2021 Hazard Mitigation Plan as Adopted by the Town Board on October 6, 2021 | Hazard Mitigation Plan | Appendix
The Purpose of a Hazard Mitigation Plan is to reduce the loss of life and property by reducing the impacts of disasters. Through effective mitigation planning and the implementation of mitigation strategies, greater risk reduction can be achieved. Once a local government has adopted a hazard mitigation plan and continues to update that plan on a five-year cycle, they are eligible to receive certain types of non-emergency disaster assistance, including funding for mitigation projects.
