  Town Clerk's Office open Thursday evenings and one Saturday per month starting March 7

  Town Clerk Patricia A. Clarino and Supervisor Stephen A. Bedetti are happy to announce evening and weekend hours for residents who need to conduct business at the Town Clerk’s office. Starting Thursday, March 7 the Town Clerk’s office will be open until 6pm each Thursday. Starting Saturday, March 9, the Clerk’s office will be open on the second Saturday of the month from 9am-12pm. For Saturday openings, dates will be posted on the Town Clerk’s webpage at newwindsor-ny.gov.

  Town Clerk Clarino stated: “Our residents lead busy lives and cannot always get to my office during normal hours for business that needs to be conducted in person. Many residents voiced a need for this when I was campaigning and I am proud to deliver on my promise.”

  Supervisor Bedetti stated: “We pride ourselves on being available for our residents. I am happy to see our Town Clerks office starting evening and weekend hours. It is important that we provide every resident the opportunity for these additional hours for those residents who cannot make it during our normal business hours.”

  Town Hall normal business hours are Monday – Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm.

  Supervisor Bedetti Annouces Winter Open Gym Pickleball - Registration is open now!

  Town Supervisor, Stephen Bedetti, is excited to announce a new, upcoming recreational activity that has been put together for our community; open gym indoor pickleball! As our outdoor pickleball courts have seen much activity over the warmer months, he wanted to extend the opportunity to continue play during the cold weather. Grab your paddles & register today as space is extremely limited! Sessions will take place on Tuesday nights at Vails Gate School.

  Update from Supervisor Meyers: NWPD Bike Patrol, Dog Park & New K9 Officer

  From Supervisor Meyers:

  We are introducing a few new additions for New Windsor that have been in planning stages for a couple of months. Beginning tomorrow, July 6, a police bicycle patrol will begin in our housing developments. We have had six of our officers in training for this detail. I think it is important for our officers to interact with our residents on a regular basis. My belief is that this type of patrol will be helpful in accomplishing that goal. The officers assigned to this detail are anxious to get started. There is a schedule of the dates and locations of these patrols and all our housing developments are included. Lieutenant Fred Fayo will provide oversight of this unit. The bikes will be rack mounted on a marked police vehicle and the officer will determine when and how long to patrol on the bike. I have heard repeatedly from our residents that they do not know any of the police officers, and I hope that this will create positive interaction for our residents with our officers.

  I have been discussing a town dog park for New Windsor for a number of weeks and the park is now a reality. The park is located at our San G Park on Union Ave across from Heritage school. There are two sections for different size dogs and both have shade structures and water bowl filling stations. The gate key required for use of the dog park will be available at the town clerk’s office starting on Thursday, July 8.

  In addition, as of this past Friday, we have a new K-9 unit assigned to our police patrol unit. Officer Joe Bell and his partner Duke graduated after months of training and will now be on patrol helping to keep New Windsor a safe place for all of us.

• Town Hall Reopening to the public on Monday June 1st

  Effective Monday June 1st, 2020, the Town of New Windsor will begin the process of reopening our offices to the public. The town’s court officers will be screening temperatures of all visitors and face coverings or masks will be required. The safety of our employees and our visitors is of the utmost concern to Supervisor Meyers and the Town Board. We encourage anyone who can still conduct business via phone or email to continue to do so.

  Town Hall will be open to the public from 11am-3pm Monday through Friday. Social distancing will be in effect with specific waiting areas for each office. We ask for everyone’s cooperation with this reopening and to follow the directions of the court officers and town employees.

  Town of New Windsor Welcomes First-Ever Student Intern to the Supervisor’s Office

  NEW WINDSOR, NY — On Thursday, October 29, the Town of New Windsor Supervisor’s Office, led by Supervisor Stephen A. Bedetti, welcomed its first-ever student intern through a partnership with the Newburgh Enlarged City School District.

  Daniela Bustillo, a 12th-grade student at Newburgh Free Academy (NFA) West, has joined the Supervisor’s Office as part of an educational internship program designed to provide students with firsthand exposure to local government and public service.

  Daniela has expressed an interest in international relations, government and public service, diplomacy, and local community involvement. The internship will give her an opportunity to learn more about how municipal government operates, how local decisions are made, and how elected officials and town employees work together to serve residents.

  “When I was contacted by the Newburgh School District about this program, I immediately jumped at the opportunity,” said Supervisor Bedetti. “I believe it is important to get our young people involved in government and help them understand how local government works. These students are the future of our communities, and providing them with opportunities to learn about public service firsthand can make a lasting impression.”

  The internship will take place on Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. throughout the remainder of the school year. During that time, Daniela will gain insight into the daily responsibilities of the Supervisor’s Office and the many functions and services provided by the Town of New Windsor.

  At the conclusion of the program, Daniela will prepare a presentation for her teacher reflecting on her experience and what she has learned throughout the internship.

  “I am excited to be part of this program and look forward to seeing Daniela grow and learn during her time with us,” Bedetti added. “I am especially looking forward to her final presentation and hearing about her experience. I hope this opportunity gives her a better understanding of local government and encourages her to continue pursuing her interests in public service.”

  The Town of New Windsor is pleased to participate in this educational initiative and looks forward to continuing to provide opportunities for local students to learn about municipal government, community involvement, and the importance of public service.

  Supervisor Bedetti also encouraged residents to take an active interest in their local government by visiting the Supervisor’s Office to learn firsthand how the Town operates.

  “While this internship is a great opportunity for a student, I want the public to know that my office is open to residents who are interested in learning more about their local government,” said Bedetti. “If you have ever wondered how decisions are made, how town operations work, or what goes on behind the scenes, I encourage you to call my office and arrange a time to stop in. I welcome the opportunity to show residents what we do and answer questions about how their town government serves the community.”

  Two New Windsor Police Officers Complete Drug Recognition Expert Training

  The Town of New Windsor Police Department announces the graduation of 2 Police Officers who tried out for and were accepted into the Drug Recognition Expert training. Completion of this highly competitive and lengthy 3 week course puts New Windsor at the forefront of combating driving while under the influence of drugs. 
  
  Police Chief Robert Doss stated, “I am very proud of Officer Sussman and Officer Weed’s successful completion of the very challenging and difficult Drug Recognition Expert program.  The deployment of these Officer’s with their knowledge, skill and expertise in the area of drugged driving detection will certainly increase the overall safety of the motorists traveling throughout the Town of New Windsor.  The Police Department remains committed to keeping the roadways safe for everyone.  We had 75 Driving While Intoxicated arrests in 2018 and we anticipate the numbers of impaired drivers on the roads to increase dramatically in the upcoming years because Governor Cuomo has committed to moving forward with his agenda of legalizing marihuana.  The New Windsor Police Department intends to stay ahead of this problem and that is why we now employ 2 of the 7 DRE trained Police Officers in all of Orange County.”
