Town of New Windsor in contact with Verizon regarding Fios service in town Town Supervisor Meyers has contacted Verizon regarding their ability to provide Fios service to New Windsor residents. Throughout the month of January Supervisor Meyers’ office has been in touch with the Verizon Director of State Government Affairs, and also the director directly responsible for the Mid-Hudson and Westchester area for Verizon. Both explained that Verizon’s current position is fulfilling their existing signed franchise agreements with other towns, cities and villages. Verizon is not entertaining or committing to any new franchise agreements at this time. Verizon has agreed to monitor the town’s request. Verizon and the Town will revisit this issue in six months to see if Verizon’s position has changed. Town of New Windsor Welcomes First-Ever Student Intern to the Supervisor’s Office NEW WINDSOR, NY — On Thursday, October 29, the Town of New Windsor Supervisor’s Office, led by Supervisor Stephen A. Bedetti, welcomed its first-ever student intern through a partnership with the Newburgh Enlarged City School District. Daniela Bustillo, a 12th-grade student at Newburgh Free Academy (NFA) West, has joined the Supervisor’s Office as part of an educational internship program designed to provide students with firsthand exposure to local government and public service. Daniela has expressed an interest in international relations, government and public service, diplomacy, and local community involvement. The internship will give her an opportunity to learn more about how municipal government operates, how local decisions are made, and how elected officials and town employees work together to serve residents. “When I was contacted by the Newburgh School District about this program, I immediately jumped at the opportunity,” said Supervisor Bedetti. “I believe it is important to get our young people involved in government and help them understand how local government works. These students are the future of our communities, and providing them with opportunities to learn about public service firsthand can make a lasting impression.” The internship will take place on Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. throughout the remainder of the school year. During that time, Daniela will gain insight into the daily responsibilities of the Supervisor’s Office and the many functions and services provided by the Town of New Windsor. At the conclusion of the program, Daniela will prepare a presentation for her teacher reflecting on her experience and what she has learned throughout the internship. “I am excited to be part of this program and look forward to seeing Daniela grow and learn during her time with us,” Bedetti added. “I am especially looking forward to her final presentation and hearing about her experience. I hope this opportunity gives her a better understanding of local government and encourages her to continue pursuing her interests in public service.” The Town of New Windsor is pleased to participate in this educational initiative and looks forward to continuing to provide opportunities for local students to learn about municipal government, community involvement, and the importance of public service. Supervisor Bedetti also encouraged residents to take an active interest in their local government by visiting the Supervisor’s Office to learn firsthand how the Town operates. “While this internship is a great opportunity for a student, I want the public to know that my office is open to residents who are interested in learning more about their local government,” said Bedetti. “If you have ever wondered how decisions are made, how town operations work, or what goes on behind the scenes, I encourage you to call my office and arrange a time to stop in. I welcome the opportunity to show residents what we do and answer questions about how their town government serves the community.” Town of New Windsor Cellular Service Survey The following message is from Town Supervisor Stephen A. Bedetti regarding cellular service concerns in the Town of New Windsor: Over the past several months, I have received numerous complaints from residents regarding poor cellular phone service throughout the Town of New Windsor. I have also personally experienced many of these same issues while traveling throughout our community, including dropped calls, areas with little or no signal, delayed text messages, and unreliable data service. It is clear that this is not an isolated problem, but one affecting many residents across our Town. I am currently preparing a formal request to Verizon to address these issues, and I would like to include as much real-world information as possible from our residents. If you have experienced problems with your cellular service in the Town of New Windsor, I ask that you please take a few moments to complete the survey using the link below. The survey will ask for: • Your cellular carrier (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, etc.) • The specific location where you experience issues. • The type of problem (dropped calls, no service, poor reception, slow data, delayed text messages, etc.). • Whether the issue is ongoing or occurs only at certain times of the day. If you experience service issues at more than one location, please complete a separate survey for each location. Submitting one response per location will help us accurately identify and map coverage gaps throughout the Town. Examples of the information we're looking for: • Verizon – Union Avenue near Route 94 – frequent dropped calls. • AT&T – Little Britain Road near the airport – little to no service. • T-Mobile – Temple Hill Road – very slow data speeds. Your feedback will help identify problem areas throughout our community and will be included as part of our efforts to work with Verizon and other wireless providers to improve cellular coverage and reliability in the Town of New Windsor. Survey Link: https://forms.gle/UQ96H7p4zosKvurKA Thank you in advance for taking a few moments to share your experience. Your input will help us advocate for better service for everyone.
