The Town will be dedicating a Memorial bench including a section of steel from the World Trade Center, a reminder that we will and should never forget this day. The Memorial will be held on the Town Hall grounds starting at 5pm and all are welcome to attend. George J. Meyers, Supervisor 9/11 Memorial Ceremony - 6 PM at Town Hall Complex Please join us at the Town Hall Complex on September 11th for a brief ceremony in honor of 9/11. The ceremony will begin at 6 PM and include a Color Guard presentation, vocalist Sgt. Maj. MaryKay Messenger, guest speaker, and bell ringing ceremony. Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony & Parade - Sunday, May 19, 2024 The town will hold its annual Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony and Parade on Sunday, May 19th, 2024. Both events will be live streamed here on our Facebook page! The ceremony will take place at 10:30 AM at the Veterans Monument on the corner of Route 94 and Route 9w. The parade will start at 2 PM from the New Windsor Post Office Plaza and wind down Route 94, ending at New Windsor School. Please come out and support your local Veterans groups, first responders and youth groups. The parade will also feature local marching bands and more! Route 94 will be closed starting at 1:45pm on Sunday from the post office plaza to New Windsor school. Route 94 will reopen as the parade passes. Please plan your travel accordingly. Cancellation of the Memorial Day Parade & Service on May 17 Out of an abundance of caution due to ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Town of New Windsor has cancelled the Memorial Day Parade & Service scheduled for Sunday, May 17th. The Memorial Day Service will be rescheduled for a date in the future when it is safe to hold. 23rd Anniversary of Nancy Smith Homicide - $35,000 Reward PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE #24-16 Issued on: December 4, 2024 23rd Anniversary of Nancy Smith Homicide On December 5, 2001, Nancy Smith, a 32-year-old female, was found deceased in her house on Provost Drive in New Windsor. On that day, Smith’s parents received a call from her office saying that Smith had not shown up to work at Horton Hospital in Middletown. Concerned, they went to check on Smith at her New Windsor home on Provost Drive, where they found her deceased on the living room floor. Nancy’s death was the result of a vicious attack and the investigation into her murder began. As the 23rd Anniversary of Nancy’s death approaches, the Detectives from New Windsor Police Department are, once again, asking for the community’s assistance in identifying Nancy’s killer. The New Windsor Police Department would like to encourage members of the community to call us with any information they may have about this murder. Any piece of information would help, no matter how small or insignificant a person may feel their information would be. For 23 years, investigators and family members have been trying to find the missing pieces to the puzzle for this crime. There is a reward of $35,000 being offered, for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for Nancy’s death. Free Rabies Clinic: May 22 at Kristi Babcock Memorial Park The Town of New Windsor Town Clerk, Kelly Allegra, and New Windsor’s Animal Control Officer, Stacy Conley, in cooperation with Orange County Dept. of Health, will be holding a FREE Drive-Thru animal rabies vaccination clinic at Kristi Babcock Memorial Park. This event will be held on Saturday May 22nd, 2021 from 10:00 until 12:30. Entrance signs and directional signs will be posted the day of the event. The clinics are open to cats, dogs and ferrets of Orange County residents only. All pets must be restrained by leash or carrier and proof of prior vaccination should be brought to the clinic for the 3-year shot. Ferret shots are only good for ONE YEAR regardless of prior proof of vaccinations.
