“Pathways Through History Weekend” the Historic Edmonston House

Jun 15, 2019 1:00 PM — Jun 11, 2019 4:00 PM
Event details

This Saturday, June 15th in conjunction with New York State’s “Pathways Through History Weekend” the Historic Edmonston House will host “Crafts of the Edmonston family in the 18th century”. The house will be open for tours from 1pm – 4pm. There will be blacksmith, carpentry and spinning demonstrations. Come see what daily life for New Windsor residents was like during the Revolutionary War when this house was the Headquarters for Major Generals Gates and St. Clare, their staff and their host family “the Edmonston’s”.
James Edmonston, a blacksmith, built a log cabin on this site in 1722 when he arrived in New Windsor from County Tyrone Ireland. The log cabin was replaced with the current 2 story stone structure by his son William in 1755. Due to its proximity to the Cantonment, it was used to house the medical staff and medical supplies as well as the Generals.
The house is located at 1042 Route 94 in Vail’s Gate.
